A personal account by Jessica Kirkhope
The past year has been full of unpredicted experiences and events for everyone. Luckily, thanks to modern technology it has made it possible to bring the business home.
Due to the coronavirus guidelines, it has meant for the past several months I have been working from home. While it is vital to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it has brought along new challenges to the business.
Challenges
Working from home has created numerous challenges...
Communication - A key factor in the work place is communication. Whether it is discussing jobs or quotes, it is vital that we continue to work together to provide the best possilbe services to our clients. The way we communicate has had to change, as instead of being in the office and being able to talk to one and other, we've had to adapt and contact each other via zoom, phone or email.

Office calls and emails are redirected to my laptop.
Distractions - As well as communication, another challenge I have faced is separating home life from work life. Having a desk and small area at home that's a dedicated space for work helps me to stay in the right frame of mind and also creates a separation between the two. Working from home means it is undoubtedly harder to motivate myself, being surrounded by other members of my household allows me to be distracted easily. Having my own work space allows me to stay concentrated and focused during my working hours.

At home or in the office, I'm always smiling.
Socialising at work
Not being in the office everyday has definitely had an affect on socialising with my colleagues. It certainly took some getting used to not being able to see them everyday. As soon as I am able to be back in the office I will definitely appreciate the little things more, like the drive to work or even getting out the house to see different people that I don't already see on a daily basis at home. I am especially looking forward to being able to sit in the office, behind my desk and have conversations with my colleagues without the use of a phone or a zoom call. My old routine is missed without a question.
Staying Positive
Even though it took some getting used to, I have certainly noticed a change in the results of my work. A mixture of different experiences and my work ethic has allowed the quality of the work I do to improve. Meaning I am leaving the customers more satisfied with the service we provide.
Looking Forward
While at first it was a struggle adjusting to my new routine, it has now become my new normal. I have an organised routine that helps me to stay focused and motivated. I'm thankful that I am able to keep myself busy during this hard time and I am looking forward to going back to the office hopefully in time for the busy summer season.

I'm looking forward to working from the new office, seeing my colleagues again and hopefully getting back to normal.
